Questions worth investigating. Work worth showing.
I take trading ideas I've heard about, used, or become curious about and investigate them for myself. Some lead somewhere. Others don't. Here, I'll share what I tested, what changed my thinking, what didn't work, and what I'm still trying to figure out.
Does the NQ Opening Range Actually Work?
The opening-range idea sounds simple: define an early-session price range, identify its high and low, then watch how price behaves around those levels. But which observation window, entry rules, stops and targets actually hold up when tested? This investigation began with a 9:30–10:00 ET opening-range baseline—not a claim that every opening-range strategy must use 30 minutes. As I worked through the data, the questions changed, and so did the strategies I was testing. I'm documenting the process, including the results, limitations, unsuccessful ideas and what happens when those rules move from historical testing into forward testing.
Full research write-up coming soonFollow the reasoning, not just the results.
Each investigation will show the question, how I tested it, what I found, the limitations, what happens next, and any later corrections or changes.
